Mini Project # 4
What are genetically altered foods? Is simply food that by cross-breeding it with other of its kind can become bigger or better for mass production. I was very surprised when doing this assignment the amount of genetically altered food that we as consumers are purchasing in our super markets. It seems like everything that we might consumer in our daily life weather is a healthy choice or a not so healthy one has been somehow altered for the mass production of goods in this country. What happened with the natural foods and the farms that our grandpas and grandmas grew up with? Well, that’s all gone. About 70-75% of the products on or supermarket shelves ranging from sodas to corn to soups to soybean has been altered genetically. This is a somewhat alarming fact since it has been revealed that these genetically altered foods can pose to a serious harm to both human and animals.
On Sunday nights I usually do my grocery shopping for the week and decided to list a few of the items that I purchased that has been genetically altered. It goes without saying that almost everything on my list has been genetically altered but here are a few:
- Cheerios
- Chicken
- Bread
- My Dogs Food (Poor Peco)
- Tomatoes
- Potatoes
· *
And many more the list goes on. I guess the best way to go, is to try to consume more organic food instead of the one we have been accustom to.
